Just because singer Miley Cyrus and actor Liam Hemsworth are no longer together doesn’t mean they aren’t friends.

During a recent interview with the folks at Love magazine, the controversial “Wrecking Ball” singer dished on her relationship with the Paranoia star. Although the pair couldn’t make their relationship work, she apparently wants to remain friendly with her ex-fiance.

“We still talk and communicate. I was with him since I was 16 and nothing’s ever going to make that go away. I’ve known this guy all that time and if it doesn’t work out I can still smile and love him and he can love me and that’s great, that’s the way to be. Life is too short,” Miley Cyrus told the publication .

She added, “If you get called one day and, God forbid, that person isn’t here, then the last thing you want to know that you had your ego in front of you. If you love someone, tell them you do, if you want to be friends with someone, be friends with them.”

Miley Cyrus told Barbara Walters last year that she was very worried about spending time alone following her split from Liam Hemsworth. The two decided to call it quits following her infamous twerk-a-thon with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards.

“I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year. I don’t ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can’t be yourself,” she said.

We know Miley’s doing okay following the breakup, but what about Liam Hemsworth? The actor told The Associated Press back in November that he was getting his life back in order after parting ways with the singer. In short: The actor is doing pretty good these days.

“These days I feel like I’m more centered and grounded than I’ve ever been. I’ve learned so much. The first few years in Los Angeles were really tough and scary, but I had to figure things out for myself. What I always keep in mind is that I know what the truth is and that’s all that matters. I know I’m a good person,” he said.

Hemsworth continued, “For a few years I went down a path where I forgot to be in the moment and enjoy the moment. But being around someone like Jen, who is so honest and laughs all day long, I am forced to be in the right now. I’m much happier. I read a lot of Zen books. And I grew up surfing, so that has always been my escape.”
