‘Lone Survivor’ Could Cross The $100 Million Mark At The Box Office This Weekend
Lone Survivor is well on its way to crossing the $100 million mark. There’s a strong possibility the flick could reach this goal by the time this weekend wraps up.
As of this writing, the thriller has an extremely tidy $97.6 million in the cinematic bank. Considering director Peter Berg only needed approximately $40 million to put the flick together, the movie has turned into an unexpected hit for the boys and girls at Universal.
If the movie can pull in an additional $3.4 million over the next three days, Lone Survivor will cross the $100 million mark by Sunday. Universal’s other box office hit, the Kevin Hart comedy Ride Along, is also on its way to breaking through that financial barrier. The movie has generated $80 million in the US since its release.
Peter Berg’s acclaimed thriller Lone Survivor could also perform exceptionally well in the UK market this weekend. The movie reportedly hit theaters in the overseas market on January 31. Since the flick has a batch of strong reviews under its belt, this could send the flick to the top of the box office in the United Kingdom.
Although the films are likely to make some solid cash over the next few days, Lone Survivor and Ride Along could feel the heat from one of this weekend’s new releases. Since most guys are no doubt preoccupied with the upcoming Super Bowl, analysts believe a pair of female-oriented releases could prove extremely popular with moviegoers.
Writer-director Tom Gormican’s That Awkward Moment, which stars Zac Efron and Michael B. Jordan, might give Kevin Hart and Ice Cube’s comedy a run for its money. The R-rated comedy is presently expected to make anywhere from $13 million to $15 million this weekend. If the film does steady business, then it may dethrone Ride Along as the top movie.
According to Variety, the Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin flick Labor Day could also generate healthy ticket sales over Super Bowl weekend. Analysts predict the movie to land somewhere between $6 million and $8 million over the next three days.
