Disney’s First Same-Sex Couple Sparks Exactly The Outrage You’d Expect
Parents, beware: Mickey Mouse is totally trying to gay your kids up!
That’s right, folks, Disney is “pushing an agenda,” and deviously promoting deviant gay lifestyles by showing adult couples of the same gender on their programming!
At least, that’s the hyperbolic intolerant view of One Million Moms, the conservative advocacy group that wants to rid our culture of the “filth many segments of our society, especially the entertainment media, are throwing at our children.”
(Notice the term “think tank” was not used).
At issue is the appearance of Susan and Cheryl, the lesbian mothers of Taylor, a playmate of the eponymous character on “Good Luck Charlie.” The episode aired Sunday and the characters are not expected to be recurring.
“Taylor has two moms!” father Bob Duncan exclaims.
“Wow, nothing gets past you, Bob,” his wife Amy snarks.
The Million Moms had urged its followers and all decent members of society to urge Disney Channel to edit or cut the subversive episode entirely. Disney countered that the content was fleshed out with guidance from a couple of more appropriate (read: competent) sources.
“This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors,” a Disney spokesman said. “Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness.”
Disney wants to offer shows that accurately reflects the society in which children are raised, one that includes gay couples? Well that just won’t fly with One Million Moms. You say expose, they say desensitize. In a post entitled “If Disney goes through with it…” they warn that “the floodgates will be opened for all programs on the Disney Channel – a trend that will be almost impossible to stop.”
We say they, in lieu of attributing these words to one particular mom of the million, because no name is given to this anti-gay diatribe. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find a single name taking credit for the “family-friendly” advocacy the group espouses (their definition isn’t exactly friendly to all families). Dig a little deeper (which means clicking the link at the bottom of the page) and you’ll find One Million Moms is a division of the American Family Association, founded by ordained United Methodist minister Donald Wildmon.
So the head of One Million Moms is a… man?
This is exactly the type of confusion you’re trying to avoid! You want to boycott programming with gay couples when you’re broaching gender issues?!
Watch those floodgates, Million Moms.
