The Sims 3 Pets Announced for PC, Mac, Consoles

The latest expansion for The Sims 3, Generations, was released just this week and EA Play is already announcing another addition to the highly popular franchise: Pets. The next installment will be sold both as an expansion pack for The Sims 3 on PC and Mac, and also as a standalone title on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo’s 3DS.

The Sims 3: Pets allows players to create, customize and even control their pets. There will be over one hundred breeds of cats and dogs for you to choose from, and players will be able to breed the pets and share them with friends to create even more pet possibilities.

“The Sims 3 Pets marks the biggest undertaking in our franchise’s history, melding the best of The Sims 3 with an even deeper player experience with the addition of pets,” said Scott Evans, General Manager of The Sims Studio. “For the first time ever, players will be able to play as their pets and see life through their eyes.”

Additionally, there will be features exclusive to Xbox 360 and Nintendo 3DS. The Xbox 360 version will make use of the Kinect by allowing players to issue voice commands to their pets and sims, while the Nintendo 3DS version takes advantage of the built-in pedometer, dishing out Karma points based on how much you walk. The Nintendo 3DS version also utilizes the StreetPass feature, allowing you to share your pets with your friends.

There’s no word on just when the next installment is due out, so you’ll just have to make do with The Sims 3: Generations for now.
