On last night’s episode of GameTrailers TV on Spike, publisher Square Enix showed off the very first trailer for developer Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider reboot . The video doesn’t give us a look at any gameplay, unfortunately, but it is certainly no less exciting.
The reboot sees a younger Lara Croft take a significant departure from her adventures in previous games. Rather than shooting, shimmying and swinging her way around the globe in search of treasures and ancient mysteries, adventure finds her this time around — and by adventure finds her, I mean that her ship sinks in a terrible disaster and she wakes up on an island full of creatures that would love nothing more than to kill her . If that’s not an adventure I don’t know what is.
I didn’t think that the last two Tomb Raider games were particularly bad, but the series has admittedly fallen pretty far from grace since the third game. If this cinematic trailer is anything to go by, it looks like the series just might get the breath of fresh air needed to revive the old, worn franchise. Guess we’ll have to wait until fall 2012 to find out!
