Meredith Vieira didn’t want to wake up at 2:30 a.m. and that’s reportedly the reason she decided to leave her job on NBC’s Today Show.
Speaking to PEOPLE the talk show host said:
“If I get up at 4 a.m., I’m facing 20 emails and I don’t handle that well,” while adding, “I’d rather absorb the material, read it thoroughly, feed the cats and dog, get the kitchen in order. I have to leave the mother’s manual for everything. I need to feel on top of the day, and the only way I can do that is by getting up at 2:30 a.m. I always thought, if I could’ve figured out a way to cut corners a little bit, it would’ve been easier, but I couldn’t.”
When asked if she was actually leaving to take care of her husband who has multiple sclerosis she put that rumor to rest saying the rumor simply isn’t true and that it was her overall family, including her children Ben, Gabe and Lily who helped in her decision to enjoy life with her family.
Meredith’s final show will happen on June 8 at which time Ann Curry will take over as the shows co-host.
