Is Google Glass the porn industry’s knight in shining armor? According to experts, the wearable device could keep the pornography business afloat for many lucrative years.
During the XBIZ 360 conference at the W Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles, a company called Mikandi.com presented a promotional video that showed how the porn industry can use Google Glass to its advantage. Over the course of the mildly explicit clip, porn stars James Deen and Andy San Dimas put the device to the test.
During the video, the actors show off how Google Glass can give porn aficionados a chance to see things through the performers’ eyes . It doesn’t matter from which perspective you want — if they’re wearing the device, then the filmmakers effectively have you covered.
The clip also shows James Deen looking up words, taking pictures of high heels, and ordering a burrito. Although the video is definitely put together with its tongue firmly pressed into cheek, it still shows off what porn directors can accomplish with Google Glass.
However, the industry currently has a few hurdles to jump before they can use the device to shoot any pornographic movies. Google policy strictly prohibits nudity, sex, or explicit content on the headset. The limited battery life could also prove problematic for filmmakers who wish to shoot movies on Google Glass.
However, producer Brick Yates feels Google Glass could evolve as customer demand increases. He also believes that similar devices will eventually appear on the market that allow filmmakers to embrace the technology for their endeavors, be it porn or mainstream.
A recent XBIZ poll revealed that most people aren’t too sure if Google Glass will have an impact on the porn industry. Many believe it’s simply too early to tell what sort of effect any new technology will have on the business as a whole.
“As far as technology goes, that’s where the porn industry goes because everyone knows the porn industry were the pioneers,” Yates said regarding Google Glass.
It’s also unclear what sort of far-reaching effects the smartglass device will have on the mainstream movie industry. However, it’s probably best that you don’t wear the headset while catching a flick on the big screen. A man was recently detained and questioned by Homeland Security after he wore the device to a showing of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit .
The piracy suspect said in a statement:
“I got Glass in November (just after Thanksgiving), and it took me a while until I found somebody to make me a prescription lens for it, but after I got the prescription at the beginning of January, I started wearing Glass all the time as my regular glasses (with enhanced reality feature). As I don’t actively think about pirating movies, it didn’t cross my mind that Glass could be seen as a pirating device.”
Do you think Google Glass will have an impact on the porn industry?
