Assassin’s Creed 5 Location: AC5 Set In Feudal Japan Or Ancient Egypt?

The Assassin’s Creed 5 location could be in feudal Japan or ancient Egypt according to the latest rumors.

In a related report from The Inquisitr, could Assassin’s Creed 5 use a new object detection algorithm to enhance the stealth game?

Not much is known about the new Assassin’s Creed 5 location although some rumors claim it could be set in a variety of locations. And it’s not like the series hasn’t already gone back and forth in time since Captain Kenway from Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is actually the father of Haytham and grandfather of Connor from AC3. The game itself even points out the possibility since one of the regular characters, Shaun, mentions in AC3 that he’d love to try and set the Animus all the way back in time.

Recently, Ubisoft creative director Jean Guesdon teased the next location could be in Japan:

“Feudal Japan remains – like numerous other time periods and locations – a possible future setting for the franchise because thanks to the Animus. The entire human history is our playground.”

Of course, he’s not saying Japan is definitely the Assassin’s Creed 5 location. As they are developing the games they are probably considering many possibilities and some of these musings may have worked their way into current games. For example, way back during the Assassin’s Creed 2 trilogy there were rumors about the next game being set in China. Although this didn’t happen, in Assassin’s Creed 3 some of the notes in the logbook mention a very in-depth back story for an Assassin’s guild in China. The short version is that this guild branch was eventually destroyed so this seems to rule out China as an Assassin’s Creed 5 location.

In the past Guesdon also said the new trend will be to get away from Desmond’s lineage:

“We have opened up a few narrative threads and themes in the present day that we would like to play with, but like we already said the ‘new’ present day is our real world and this has impact at many different levels. For example, as you can already see on ACInitiates.com we now have several entry points to the modern-day. In short, we have shifted to the present day being more of a ‘persistent context’ for future games.”

But the rumors surrounding ancient Egypt actually seem to have some evidence to back them up. In 2012, there was a leaked gameplay screenshot from what was then assumed a Prince Of Persia reboot:

Those who have played AC4 might recognize this character from somewhere:

The interesting part about AC4 is that it pulls a Deadpool and breaks the fourth wall. The files of Abstergo Entertainment even mention Ubisoft by name within the context of the game world. And Guesdon reveals this was done on purpose in order to give hints to the future of the series:

“The present day sections of Black Flag are the perfect vehicle for fan service; giving more information about what fans may know, and for universe exposition, exposing to newcomers the incredible content that’s already been developed.”

It’s possible the final Assassin’s Creed 5 location will not be either Japan or Egypt but the evidence seems to lean toward the latter despite Guesdon name-dropping Japan. Which Assassin’s Creed 5 setting would you prefer?
