Islamic Threat To Winter Olympics In Sochi
There has now been an Islamic threat to the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
In a related report from The Inquisitr, Islamic terrorists recently shot up a wedding in Nigeria, killing 12.
According to the latest news, two Russians claiming to be Islamic threatened the Winter Olympics in Sochi this year, saying:
“We’ve prepared a present for you and all tourists who’ll come over. If you will hold the Olympics, you’ll get a present from us for the Muslim blood that’s been spilled.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin immediately got to work on saving all those tourist dollars by encouraging everyone that the Winter Games in Sochi would be “perfectly safe”:
“Russia has a perfect understanding of the threat and how to stop it. We will try to make certain that the security measures are not intrusive or too conspicuous, so they are not too noticeable for the athletes, the Olympics’ guests or journalists. But at the same time, we will do our utmost to ensure that they are effective. Security is to be ensured by some 40,000 law enforcement and special services officers. Of course, we will draw on the experience acquired during similar events held in other regions of the world and in other countries. It means that we will protect our air and sea space, as well as the mountain cluster.”
President Putin cited security measures taken during the G8 and G20 summits as example of the country’s ability to protect those flocking to Russia for the Winter Olympics in Sochi. However, just last month an attack that took place in a Volgograd transit hub has many concerned about the security situation and how it will effect the Games. Indeed Senator Angus King from Maine voiced his skepticism towards just how safe attending the Winter Olympics in Sochi will be this year:
“It’s a very serious fear. I wouldn’t go to the games himself, and I don’t think I would send my family.”
The video itself surfaced on news outlets Sunday, and was originally posted on a Jihadi forum. It featured two young men claiming to responsible for a suicide bombing last month in Volgograd. In the clip the men are dressed in black, sitting in front of a banner with religious text that is associated with al-Qaeda extremists.
American lawmakers remain anxious about Russia’s ability to cooperate to ensure the safety of American’s abroad. Representative Mike Rogers laid it out:
“Their level of concern is great, but we don’t seem to be getting all of the information we need to protect our athletes in the Games. I think this needs to change, and it should change soon.”
So what do you think about the latest Islamic threat to the Winter Olympics in Sochi, would you feel safe attending?
