Hayley Atwell Taking Lead Role In Captain America Spin-Off ‘Agent Carter’

It seems the rumors are true! According to most accounts, Hayley Atwell will be playing Peggy Carter in the forthcoming Agent Carter, a spin-off from Captain America.

Agent Carter is set just one year after the events which took place in Captain America: The First Avenger. It focuses on the life of Agent Carter, to be played by Atwell, as she works to build her career as a secret agent.

Even though Hayley Atwell has only appeared a couple of times in the Marvel series, once as the World War II-era girlfriend of Chris Evans’ Captain America and once in Captain America: The First Avenger, she was a big hit with fans and became very popular.

The original rumors were sparked when the British media reported that Atwell was moving to Los Angeles at the beginning of January to commence filming. The publication, Deadline, has now revealed that Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have been recruited as writers and will also be producing the project.

Butters and Fazekas may not be everyday household names but you may have heard of them from some of their previous work. Their most recent endeavor was on ABC’s Resurrection, which is due for release later in 2014. They also co-created the cult blockbuster Reaper as well as Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse.

So, although the rumors seem to be true and it is more or less a foregone conclusion that Hayley Atwell will be playing the main star in the upcoming film, Marvel have declined to confirm either way. It isn’t clear that Atwell is moving to LA or ready to film despite the fact that writers are on-board.
