Utah Police Officer Joshua Boren Kills Entire Family, Himself
A Utah police officer is accused of slaying his wife, two children, and mother-in-law before turning the gun on himself in a brutal attack on Thursday.
Spanish Fork Police Chief Steve Adams said the suspect, 34-year-old Joshua Boren, had been an officer with the Lindon Police Department. After Boren failed to show up for work on Friday his commander tried to call the officer on the phone, and became concerned when no one answered. He then sent officers to check on the family.
When no one answered the door, officers ventured inside and came across a grisly scene.
“Through a window, officers noticed blood on the carpet of the front room as well as empty handgun shell casings,” Adams said, adding that police found a large amount of blood on the stairway leading to the second floor.
Police found the body of 55-year-old Marie King, mother-in-law to the Utah police officer, inside an upstairs bedroom. In another room they found the bodies of Boren’s wife, 32-year-old Kelly Boren, and their children, 7-year-old Joshua “Jaden” Boren and 5-year-old Haley Boren.
Authorities did not note where body of the Utah police officer was found. Police also said there was no suicide note.
Though officers learned that the Borens had marital problems for several months and had gone through a brief period of separation, they said there was no indication that Joshua Borden would snap as he did.
“There were no warning signs,” said Spanish Fork Lt. Matthew Johnson, adding that police had never been to the home for domestic issues. “This was a total shock to everyone.”
Lindon Police Chief Cody Cullimore said the department was shocked by the quadruple homicide, noting that Utah police officer Joshua Boren was known as a “very likable” man.
