Tim Tebow Jets Trade A Mistake, Admits Mike Tannenbaum
The Tim Tebow Jets trade was a mistake according to former GM Mike Tannenbaum.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the Tim Tebow was “forced” onto Woody Johnson, the owner of the Jets. Ted Sundquist claimed Johnson told him it wasn’t his idea to hire Tebow. Sundquist said it was his impression that the trade was “forced” on Johnson and team president Neil Glat. The way the discussion was portrayed, it sounded as though Johnson was blaming former GM Mike Tannenbaum for the Tebow debacle. In response, the owner did exactly that by firing Tannenbaum one day after the regular season ended.
So perhaps Tannenbaum was letting loose some sour grapes when he claimed Tim Tebow was a mistake:
“Obviously we made a couple mistakes -– trading for Tim Tebow most notably. But I would say beyond that, but we (could have done a better job with the bottom of our roster), especially toward the end.”
Tannenbaum was with the NY Jets for 16 years, becoming the general manager in 2006. While the Jets made it to two AFC Championship games his record began to slip, ending with 6-10 during his last year in the organization.
The worst part about the Tim Tebow trade was that the quarterback mostly sat idle throughout his time at the Jets. He was eventually cut loose during the offseason and as we all know the comeback at the New England Patriots didn’t work. As of right now Tebow is working in broadcasting although he still has hope of making a NFL comeback:
“I am so excited that ESPN has given me this incredible opportunity. When I was six years old I fell in love with the game of football and while I continue to pursue my dream of playing quarterback in the NFL, this is an amazing opportunity to be a part of the unparalleled passion of college football and the SEC.”
Interestingly enough, despite calling Tebow a mistake Mike Tannenbaum agrees Tim might make it back into the NFL as a player:
“Yeah, Tim obviously didn’t play well in the preseason with New England, but he’s a guy (that’s) incredibly passionate about his career. I would never bet against Tim. We used to have an expression that Tim’s the type of guy who’s either going to be successful or die trying. His relentlessness and passion – I would think he’ll get another opportunity.”
If Tim Tebow’s NFL dream ever does come true again which team do you think he should play for?
