In a role that appears to be made for the eccentric actor, it’s been rumored that Johnny Depp is on the shortlist to appear in Marvel’s Doctor Strange .

Latino Review reports that Marvel is going after one of the biggest and most expensive names in Hollywood to play the lead role in the upcoming Doctor Strange . According to the publication, if Depp decides that he wants the part, it won’t interfere with his big money franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean .

Both films are tentatively scheduled for release in the same time period, but Disney is said to be willing to work around Depp’s Marvel shooting schedule to make the next Pirates of the Caribbean sequel.

As for the developments regarding Marvel’s Doctor Strange, it’s been said that the script will have to go through some changes if Depp takes on the role since the original was set to star a thirty-year-old, but that shouldn’t be too much trouble given Depp’s flexible range.

This seems to be the beginning of a highly successful business plan for Marvel. In addition to Marvel basically dominating the comic book and graphic novel game, they have devised an upcoming slate that pretty much cashes its own checks.

In 2015, we will see Marvel’s Ant-Man starring Paul Rudd, who is set to play the title character opposite a menacing Michael Douglas. Also not to be forgotten is the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, which promises a huge showdown with several arch-villains.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Doctor Strange, it’s about a former neurosurgeon with untapped magical powers who trains to become a sorcerer, and then serves as the Sorcerer Supreme. To give you an idea, Doctor Strange has been described as “the mightiest magician in the cosmos,” and “more powerful by far than any of your fellow humanoids.”

As mentioned, if Depp takes on this role, it won’t be his only major venture. Depp still has Disney’s Pirates of The Caribbean and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland . With no signs of slowing down, Johnny will have to fit Doctor Strange into his growing list of projects, including two franchise films and London Fields .
