Justin Bieber And Selena Gomez: After Segway Surprise, Spurious Speculation
Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez’s Segway outing in Calabasas, California, on Thursday, January 2, took every media outlet from the US to Africa by surprise.
Now that the initial shock of the undeniably big story has faded, inevitably it needs to renew itself.
Enter assumption-making by a gossip outlet who apparently have a hotline to a source who couldn’t ensure they broke the story about the ex-sweethearts’ fun day, but can give them the inside track on the ex-teen sweethearts’ relationship.
“During the holidays, Justin played on the emotions they have for each other and worked them to his advantage because who wants to be alone during the holidays?,” a source sounding indistinguishable from a Hollywood Life staffer purportedly the outlet.
The ‘insider’ adds, “Selena accepted his advances and invitations… She should really watch out though, he is definitely interested in Selena but not for all the right and gentleman type reasons.”
Grammar crimes aside, this is pure hooey based on inferences from past gossip stories. It may even be true. But it’s unlikely it’s an actual quote.
Bieber and Gomez dated for over two years before their first break-up back in November 2012.

Since then, the pair have been seen many times together and reportedly maintained an on-off status. 2013 saw the twosome pop up in amicable Instagrams, write songs about each other, make supportive public statements, and hang out at parties and overseas.
You name it, they did it.
Despite the Canadian’s revelations in a December interview with Los Angeles hip-hop radio station Power 106 that he and the Latina star weren’t talking, clearly underneath all that there is a bottom line friendship; as opposed to coercion.
In contrast to Hollywood Life’s spin, TMZ (who were first out of the gate with the story), kept their report brief and factual.
The website published Twitter-obtained photographs of Justin and an unidentified male riding Segways through the gated The Oaks neighborhood, while Selena trailed a few yards behind on her segway.
Their recreation was witnessed by a passerby, Nick Sanitsky, who tweeted snaps of the pair along with indignant details.
“Bieber and Selena segwaying in the Oaks. She was so nice, so he yelled at us,” Sanitsky wrote.
The onlooker added the pop stars’ ride held up traffic and claimed the teen idol “ruined” his celebrity-voyeur moment by being “rude” to him.

During his Power 106 guest spot, Justin confirmed his Journals single “All That Matters” was about Selena.
“I wrote the best music once my heart was broken. ‘All That Matters’ was written when I was in a great place in my relationship, and at that time, she was all that mattered in my life,” he told host ‘Big Boy’ on December 17.
Describing his break with the actress-singer, the 19-year-old said,
“It affected us, especially when we are in front of so many people. It’s such a public thing. It’s just hard for the both of us. But you know, she’s a great woman. I love her till this day. I think we’re going to be the greatest of friends.”
Bieber added, “Right now we’re taking a little time and not talking.”
Gomez recently canceled the Australian and Asia legs of her Stars Dance World Tour, citing a need to focus on herself amid reports that she suffers from the auto-immune disease Lupus.
Using this, Hollywood Life switched tack from an ’emotionally manipulative’ Bieber before adding ‘quotes’ that referred to the condition.
“They’ve been talking every day, he really understands what she’s going through with her Lupus. He’s been so supportive because he knew how much she wanted to keep that private,” the purported insider claimed.
“He’s been trying to get her back for ages and he’s still trying. She’s not back with him but they’re back on way better terms for the door is open that’s for sure,” the talking head went on. “Justin started to invite her over when he knew she would be in town, now that she is taking time for herself. This isn’t the first time they have hung out recently at his place.”
