Incoming New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio will be bringing another famous Bill with him to his inauguration. Former President Bill Clinton will be on hand to swear in de Blasio as New York City’s 109th mayor.
The official swearing in ceremony will take place on Wednesday on the City Hall steps . Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will also be on hand to witness the festivities.
De Blasio in very familiar with the Clintons as he served in the former President’s cabinet. Bill de Blasio worked for Bill Clinton in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Bill de Blasio also managed Hillary Rodham Clinton’s successful bid for New York Senator in 2000.
Bill de Blasio will be using the bible used by Franklin Delano Roosevelt when he was sworn into office as President of the United States.
BIll de Blasio was recently elected Mayor of New York City after crushing his Republican challenger in November. New York City has not had a Democratic Mayor in more than 20 years. Bill de Blasio is succeeding current Mayor Michael Bloomberg after three terms in office. Bloomberg originally ran as a Republican and then became an Independent while in office. Bloomberg had succeeded two term Republican Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
De Blasio is seen as the most liberal Mayor since Mayor David Dinkins served in the 80’s. New York City has witnessed dramatic reductions in crime under the Republican administrations, but as pointed out by de Blasio in the campaign, has also seen a dramatic rise in income inequality.
