‘The Vampire Diaries’ Star Ian Somerhalder Explains Why He’s Not Marriage Material [Video]

The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder explained why you probably wouldn’t want him as your husband. However, there are probably lots of women who would gladly beg to differ.

The former Lost star recently made an appearance at The Vampire Diaries convention in Orlando, Florida. In addition to discussing the popular CW show, Somerhalder also explained why he’s not exactly marriage material.

“You do not want to be married to me. Trust me. I’m a workaholic. I’m never home,” the 35-year-old actor told the folks who showed up for the convention.

The dashing actor continued, “I have eight animals… Yeah, they’re adorable, but wait ’til you’re living with them… there’s five of them and they’re 25 pounds each… their turds are about the size of this microphone. I mean, it’s all day everyday.”

Despite spending a fair amount of time picking up ridiculously large bowel movements, The Vampire Diaries star said his pets are the “most beautiful creatures” he’s ever encountered. If that doesn’t melt your ice-cold heart, then we really don’t know what will.

Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon Salvatore on the series, previously said that working on a TV series is not unlike tying the knot with someone. Like most people, the actor explained that he occasionally needs a break from the set.

“Being on a television show is sort of like a marriage so it’s nice. Lovers need space from their togetherness. Actors need space from their television show. So it’s a nice little bit of separation,” he said in a recent interview with Entertainmentwise.

This doesn’t mean that Somerhalder doesn’t enjoy spending time with his co-stars. In fact, the boys and girls of The Vampire Diaries hang out quite a bit while shooting the series.

“We go to dinner a lot as a cast together so I really love that. I love food and I love family. We have these huge, long table dinners and they’re really fun. We are a cast that really does love each other and hang out together,” the actor explained.
