If hearing about Katy Perry and John Mayer is making you a little sick these days, then you might want to take something to settle your stomach. It’s about to get really gushy.

The “Roar” singer and queen of Twitter recently stopped by Ellen to discuss everything that’s going on in her life at the moment. Since nobody hangs out with DeGeneres without getting one surprise or another, it wasn’t long before John Mayer was sitting on the couch next to his famous girlfriend. Insert adorable sigh here.

Although you might think that Katy Perry and John Mayer sit around the house all day writing music and basking in each other’s glory, the pair live a surprisingly ordinary life. Perry told DeGeneres that their free time often involves chatting through their iPads and playing lots of Pictionary.

“We have a lot of fun. We have music as an understanding and love between each other, and we connect. It’s like he understands what I do because he does the same thing. And so after a long day, if it’s been tough, I don’t really have to go into it. He just gets it. So it’s nice with that understanding,” she explained.

So what’s the deal with Katy Perry and John Mayer chatting through iPads when they’re in the same house? Since their vocal chords often require a bit of rest from time to time, the singers found a way to carry on non-verbal conversations.

“I understood that he couldn’t talk, and the only way he could communicate was through an iPad. Because some days I have to go on complete vocal rest, like no anything, no whispering. Whispering is actually really bad. There’s just a lot of silence in our house most of the time,” she told Ellen DeGeneres.

While the couple has no trouble frolicking through the world of romantic bliss, their relationship didn’t always sail so smoothly. Before Katy Perry could completely commit herself to John Mayer, she had to put her troubled marriage to Russell Brand in the past.

“I think when two people are involved, someone other than yourself, you have to figure out a compromise in a good way. And there’s a lot of respect. You know, I really adore him and respect him as a musician, and that’s why I was excited and agreed to do a song with him,” the singer said. Check out Perry and Mayer’s collaboration below.
