Confirmed: Paul Rudd To Play ‘Ant-Man’ – Marvel Speaks
We told you that Paul Rudd as Ant-Man was basically a done deal, but now we have confirmation that it’s actually happening. After Variety leaked the news that Rudd was in negotiations to head up Marvel’s long-awaited Ant-Man film, the studio has finally came forward to speak about the locked deal with their leading man.
Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige spoke about the decision to have Paul Rudd as the shrinking Ant-Man. Going by the statement he released, it sounds like the studio is extremely confident that they have found their right man after a long search.
“We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”
As far as plot is concerned, Ant-Man will revolve around the later years in the series, with an addition of Scott Lang as a nemeses. In the story, Lang steals Ant-Man’s technology and becomes “the new” Ant-Man. No word on who will play the character of Scott Lang.
Prior to Paul Rudd being in the lead to play Ant-Man, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in the mix to play the Marvel superhero. However, these days Gordon-Levitt is a bit busy with heading up and producing Sandman, so Rudd was the obvious choice for this one.
It’s not a shock that Feige would come forward with the exciting casting news of Ant-Man, given the fact that back in October it was said this announcement would be made before the year’s end.
Now there’s word that Rudd is already getting a head start by training for Ant-Man. Before the actor takes on the Marvel role, audiences will be able to catch the actor in the second installment for Anchorman, titled Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
As for other casting rumors, there’s no word on whether or not Rashida Jones sealed the deal to play Janet Van Dyne.
