Jennifer Lawrence: ‘It Should Be Illegal To Call Somebody Fat On TV’
Outspoken American actress Jennifer Lawrence is making headlines again saying: “It Should Be Illegal To Call Somebody Fat On TV.”
Jennifer Lawrence has been very vocal about weight issues concerning her and how people view her non-traditional looks.
The Hunger Games Catching Fire star has made it no secret what she thinks of people who criticize her, for being a little bit more ‘full’ than the model-type stars we are used to seeing on fashion magazines and movies.
Speaking to Barbara Walters for her special Most Fascinating People Of 2013, Jennifer Lawrence once again made it clear what she thinks of her critics.
The question came when Walters brought up Lawrence’s feud with Joan Rivers and her Fashion Police, E! show.
“You’re very sensitive to that. Why?” Walters asked Jennifer. She gave a lengthy reply:
“Because why is humiliating people funny? And I get it, and I do it too, we all do it. But I think when it comes to the media, the media needs to take responsibility for the effect that it has on our younger generation, on these girls that are watching these television shows and picking up how to talk and how to be cool. So then all of a sudden being funny is making fun of the girl that’s wearing an ugly dress or making fun of the girl that’s, you know. And the word fat. I just think it should be illegal to call somebody fat on TV. If we’re regulating cigarettes and sex and cuss words because of the effect it has on our younger generation, why aren’t we regulating things like calling people fat?”
Jennifer Lawrence singled out Fashion Police during a visit with Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer in November:
“Shows like the Fashion Police and things like that are just showing these generations of young people to judge people based on things (that don’t matter). They put values in all the things that are wrong and (show) that it’s ok to just point at people and call them ugly and call them fat and they call it fun.”
After that statement, the young star earned an earful from the TV fashion staple in a rant on Twitter:
It’s funny how Jennifer Lawrence loved @E_FashionPolice during Awards Season when we were complimenting her every single week…

WAIT! It just dawned on me why Jennifer Lawrence fell on her way up to the stage to get her Oscar. She tripped over her own arrogance.

Her tweets didn’t get very positive reactions from fans of Jennifer Lawrence, who is regarded as one of the most down-to-earth celebrities.
The 23-year-old has become an advocate for positive body image with her candid opinions on the subject, after being told that she was fat when she was younger and given advice to lose weight.
“If anybody even tries to whisper the word ‘diet’, I’m like, ‘You can go f*** yourself.'” Jennifer famously said to the mere suggestions.
She has vowed never to starve herself for a role, but that might not be possible since being an actor involves physically preparing for roles, including losing or gaining weight.
