‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Movie Might See James Marsden’s Cyclops Return
The X-Men: Apocalypse movie could see a familiar face returning to the series. James Marsden’s Cyclops could be back, but sources say it’s too early to know if the character will even be in the story.
Super hero movies are getting known for their tendency to deviate from the source material, consistently leading to comic book purists slamming them over and over. In X-Men: The Last Stand, the deviations went a little too far and angered even the fans who loved the first two films. In many fans’ opinion, killing off Phoenix, Cyclops, and Professor Xavier was an outright insult.
Even though the X-Men: Apocalypse movie is still in the planning phases and won’t be due for at least two years, early speculation points to James Marsden’s Cyclops making a comeback. He won’t be in X-Men: Days of Future Past due to scheduling conflicts, but he reportedly has no plans far enough ahead yet to keep him from being in the next film.
Being killed off in the third film hasn’t stopped Bryan Singer from bringing back the older Professor Xavier, however. Everyone’s favorite mutant psychic showed up at the end of The Wolverine to announce that he needed Logan’s Adamantium aid. This was a teaser scene for the next film, in which they go back in time to attempt to fix what went wrong. With time travel used to fix the past, it could mean that they managed to save Cyclops as well, and possibly even Phoenix.
Absolute Radio called James Marsden and asked him if he would be in the X-Men: Apocalypse movie, and the actor simply smiled and said it’s too early to know. Marsden was told to give Bryan Singer a call and get cast in the film, to which he responded, “I hope so. Yeah, I hope so. I love being a part of that world.”
James Marsden’s Cyclops could be back if Bryan Singer decides on it.
According to the comic books, Cyclops would fit perfectly in the storyline involving the ancient Egyptian mutant, having been one of the key characters to defeat him alongside Phoenix. The resurrection of Cyclops could also open up the storyline for his son Nathan (Cable), who might go back in time for a whole new kind of buddy film with the hilariously disturbed Deadpool. X-Men: Apocalypse could easily be one of the films that help to realize many a fan’s silver screen dream.
Do you think the X-Men: Apocalypse movie should bring back James Marsden’s Cyclops?
