Wii U, 3DS Console Game Of The Year 2013
The Wii U and 3DS Games of the Year for 2013 are being lumped together due to the underwhelming sales records of Nintendo’s successor to the Wii. We took the numbers from Metacritic scores to determine the winners, so opinions are not a factor. The critic ratings were added to the user ratings (multiplied by ten), and we calculated the average. Again, the scores posted here are out of 100.
Nintendo’s current consoles are the focus here. The results may be a little surprising for one of the consoles, but if you’re curious about the other main console winners, click here for PlayStation 4, click here for Xbox One, click here for PlayStation 3, and again click here for Xbox 360.
The Inquisitr‘s Wii U and 3DS Game of the Year 2013 winners are:
Second Place on Wii U is a tie between The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Rayman Legends (average score: 88). It appears the platforming mastermind with no limbs is sharing the spotlight with the savior of Hyrule this time around. With Rayman Legends being entirely original, it has a slight edge over the remake of Zelda. However, according to Metacritic, they’re both just as good.
First Place on Wii U goes to Super Mario 3D World (average score: 92). For anyone who has been a fan of Nintendo, this was almost obvious from the start. Nintendo rarely makes a game less than perfect, and even though Mario may not be enough to save the Wii U, this title is certainly fun enough to change gamers’ minds if they ever want to give the console a chance.
Second Place on Nintendo 3DS goes to The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (average score: 91). Once again, Link finds himself in second place, though it may have something to do with his latest adventure being almost like a second quest for A Link to the Past, using the same world with different dungeons. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it does show that Nintendo can’t get away with recycling older games to win top honors (see Wii U Game of the Year).
First Place on Nintendo 3DS goes to Fire Emblem: Awakening (average score: 92). A tactical role-playing game takes the top spot on Nintendo’s portable console this year according to Metacritic. Much like Final Fantasy Tactics over a decade ago, turn based strategy is the rule of the day. This time around you can customize your character with more depth, possibly adding to its must-play value.
Unfortunately, Pokemon X and Y came in at a close third for the 3DS with an average combined score of 88. We are considering them the same game, and would have about the same results separately.
The Inquisitr‘s Wii U and 3DS Game of the Year 2013 awards go to Super Mario 3D World and Fire Emblem: Awakening, Metacritic‘s highest rated Nintendo games for 2013. Click here to see what game won the award on the PlayStation Vita.
