Kanye West Accused Of Being Antisemitic
It seems like everywhere you turn, Kanye West’s name is brought up in a headline. Whether he is angry at someone like radio personality Sway, or at the technical crew at his show, West has been the major story of the year. This time, however, Kanye is being called out for being antisemitic.
These allegations are brought on by the Anti-Defamation League after Kanye’s interview with Power 105.1. The comments that are being dissected by the community are mainly based on his thoughts about President Obama:
“Lemme tell you something about George Bush and oil money and Obama and no money. People wanna say Obama can’t make these moves or he’s not executing that’s ’cause he ain’t got those connections. Black people don’t have the same level of connections as Jewish people!”
The Anti-Defamation league is demanding an apology from Kanye because of his comments accusing Jewish people of having immediate ties to each other. The ADL’s National Director, Abraham H. Foxman, released a statement via Pitchfork to further discuss how hurtful and antisemitic West’s comments are:
“This is classic anti-Semitism. There it goes again, the age-old canard that Jews are all-powerful and control the levers of power in government. As a celebrity with a wide following, Kanye West should know better. We hope that he will take responsibility for his words, understand why they are so offensive, and apologize to those he has offended.”
This isn’t the only time West has offended a group of people. Some people found his “Yeezus” tour merchandise to be quite offensive as the confederate flag is featured prominently on his tour shirts, as well as a skull covered in a native american headdress. For West it was all about “taking the flag back,” but there was a large group that didn’t see it in that way.
Back in the summer West also offended the Parkinson’s Disease Association due to lyrical content in his track “On Sight.” The lyrics that got West in an uproar are as follows:
“A monster about to come alive again / Soon as I pull up and park the Benz / We get this b–ch shaking like Parkinson’s / Take my number and lock it in / Indian hair, no moccasins.”
Who do you think is the next group that Kanye West will offend?
