Trump blasts DeNiro over ‘Birther’ controversy
Despite the fact that even pretty out-there Obama critics like Rep. Michele Bachmann have abandoned their claims that President Obama was “born in Kenya,” Donald Trump seems to be basing his entire potential 2012 presidential run around it.
Naturally, Trump’s embrace of the controversial position has earned him some criticism by high profile celebrities, including actor Robert DeNiro. Trump seems to have taken exception to DeNiro’s criticism- the real estate mogul and his combover called in to Fox and Friends this morning specifically to sound off on the matter of the actor’s intellectual capacity.
In response to DeNiro’s assertion that continued claims President Obama was born in Kenya were “crazy,” Trump fumed:
“Well, he’s not the brightest bulb on the planet… I have been watching over the years and I like his acting, but in terms of when I watch him doing interviews and various other things, we are not dealing with Albert Einstein,” Trump added. “He can say what he wants, but the fact is this guy has not revealed his birth certificate.”
President Obama has released his birth certificate in the past, but opponents demand he produce a “long-form” birth certificate before they accept his legitimacy as president. DeNiro isn’t the first celebrity Trump has squared off with over the controversy- he recently fought with Whoopi Goldberg on The View over his criticism of the President.
