The Weinstein Company To Adapt ‘Sin City,’ ‘The Mist’ As TV Series
The Weinstein Company is looking to adapt Sin City and The Mist as TV series.
The studio, run by brothers Harvey and Bob Weinstein, is also planning to bring Scream and Silver Linings Playbook to the small screen.
“The way to add stability to the company is to be in the television business,” Harvey Weinstein told the New York Times. Weinstein also said his goal was to create a television operation “as powerful as the theatrical division.”
In a separate interview, Bob Weinstein said he is developing a 10-part series based on Stephen King’s The Mist with Frank Darabont, who developed and executive produced the first season of The Walking Dead. Darabont also recently developed and executive produced Mob City, starring Jon Bernthal, who played Shane on The Walking Dead. The series, which also stars Jeremy Luke, Milo Vetimiglia, Neal McDonough, and Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale on TWD), premieres December 4 on TNT.
Bob Weinstein also said he is preparing a pilot based on the Scream series for MTV, and that he is hoping to follow the August 2014 release of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For with a TV series.
The Weinstein Company is also considering a series based on David O. Russell‘s Silver Linings Playbook, with playwright Tracy Letts — who wrote the stage and screen versions of August: Osage County — involved for at least an episode or two.
The Weinstein brothers are also considering a 10-episode 10 Commandments series, a 10-episode detective drama set in Egypt called Book of the Dead, a 14-episode War and Peace adaptation, Marco Polo for Netflix, Stan and Ollie for BBC, and an “Entourage-like” comedy loosely based on “the adventures of celebrity chef Michael Chiarello.”
Harold Vogel, an entertainment industry analyst, said The Weinstein Company’s move to television could make sense.
“It is a lot smarter for them to move toward TV scripted production than to pursue cable networks, publishing, games and other such off-the-reservation ventures, as they’ve done in the past,” he said.
