Bob Harper Comes Out On ‘Biggest Loser’
Bob Harper announced that he is gay during an episode of The Biggest Loser. The personal trainer said he made the revelation to help a contestant deal with his own sexuality. The contestant, named Bobby, attributed his weight problems to the stress of hiding his homosexuality.
Bobby openly discussed his problems during the weight loss reality show. He said he was raised in a Catholic household, and his parents would not accept his lifestyle. Bobby is particularly concerned with his father’s reaction.
Harper said he has never discussed his sexual orientation on the program. However, he felt he needed to reach out to Bobby. As reported by Los Angeles Times, he wanted the contestant to know “he doesn’t have to live in shame.” Harper said he hopes his words helped Bobby and anyone else struggling with their sexuality:
“I’m gay… Being gay doesn’t mean being weak. Being gay doesn’t mean that you are less than anybody else. It’s just who you are.“
According to his NBC profile, Bob Harper is a personal trainer and “lifestyle expert.” In addition to his work as a trainer on The Biggest Loser, he has written two books about personal health and fitness. Harper also released several DVD and works as a motivational speaker.
The Biggest Loser is currently on its 15th season. Each season includes a group of contestants who are interested in losing weight and improving their overall health. The contestants are divided into two teams before submitting to a number of challenges and weight loss goals.
Each week the contestants are weighed to determine their team’s total weight loss. The team with the highest total weight loss is safe. The losing team must choose a contestant to eliminate. The last contestant left at the end of the season is named The Biggest Loser.
Bob Harper has been with the program since the first season. He has inspired thousands of people to improve their fitness and health. He hopes by coming out he will also inspire those struggling with their sexuality.
