Inevitable: Glee cast to cover Rebecca Black’s Friday
The people behind Glee have officially hastened the show’s increasingly rapid slide into mediocrity with an announcement that the cast will perform Rebecca Black’s horrible viral “hit,” the ubiquitous “Friday.”
Glee has quickly begun to lose some of its initial widescale appeal, and the addition of guest stars like Gwyneth Paltrow hasn’t really helped regain the show some of its prior level of buzz. The cloying style of Glee’s performance coupled with the novelty track’s horrid lyrics is unlikely to yield one of the show’s better singles.
NYMag had this information about the upcoming episode:
The hot rumor of the hour is that Glee‘s prom episode will include a cover of Rebecca Black’s infamous YouTube hit “Friday,” and Vulture can confirm that and reveal an opposite-sex twist: The ode to fun, sitting in the backseat, fun, and fun will be sung by Kevin McHale, Chord Overstreet, and Mark Salling.
Black’s “Friday” has over 101 million views on YouTube, with around 200,000 likes to two million plus dislikes.
