Justin Timberlake Wants To Try His Hand At Country Music
Justin Timberlake often dreams of becoming a country music star. No, seriously.
Although the singer has tackled everything from R&B to pop music, the Runner Runner star wouldn’t mind trying his hand at country music. Timberlake said you can find hints of the genre in his recent single “Drink You Away” from his latest album 20/20 Experience Part 2.
“It’s a country song to me. Mama, I made it. I’m on the Highway,” he told Sirius XM.
Justin Timberlake credits his desire to record a few country music tunes to growing up in the south. He explained that his sound was heavily influenced by the genres he listened to during his younger days.
The singer said:
“I just did an interview earlier today and I said ‘I’m American, that’s what I am.’ In all senses of the word. Grew up outside of Memphis, Tennessee. Listened to country music, R&B music, classic rock, you know, everything. You know what I love about Nashville too, you don’t have to have an official single to have a single. That’s my favorite part about the scene in Nashville.”
Although the singer has his hands full at the moment, he told The Highway Hot 30 Live host Storme Warren that he still wouldn’t mind taking home an award for Best Country Album.
“There’s time for that,” he added.
Although he’s released a best-selling album and a major Hollywood motion picture into theaters over the past few months, critics haven’t said the nicest thing about Justin Timberlake’s endeavors. During his recent chat with GQ, the magazine’s Man of the Year said he was definitely feeling the sting of several negative reviews.
“So I find it ironic that I’m doing an interview with you about Man of the Year when I feel — literally — like a bunch of people just took a s*** on my face,” Timberlake explained.
He continued, “The movie didn’t do well at the box office, so I should quit? Hold on a second. If I was somebody else, you wouldn’t have said that. I have the number one album this week, and I shouldn’t have released it? Come on, man. You sound like a d***head…. It just shocked me because, like, you’re trade magazines. None of your opinions count. And by the way, none of you can do it.”
Do you think Justin Timberlake should try his hand at recording a country music album? Would the singer’s critics welcome such a shift in focus?
