Newlywed Kelly Clarkson must be walking on cloud 9; the singer is pregnant and expecting her first child with husband Brandon Blackstock. The American Idol alum, who is known for her broody songs about lost love, found it with Blackstock when Clarkson hired his father, Narvel Blackstock, as her talent manager. A few years later, the two were involved in a romance.
Clarkson announced her pregnancy on Twitter, telling her followers: “I’m pregnant!!! Brandon and I are so excited! Best early Christmas present ever.”
The news of the announcement isn’t surprising as Clarkson said that she was willing to have children right away because she wanted her own with husband Brandon. Blackstock has two children from his previous marriage, Savannah, 12, and Seth, 6.
Clarkson was recently on Jay Leno , and it sounded like she was ready to spill the beans on the show. Instead, she said that the two were trying, although it almost turned into a case of verbal diarrhea. “We are not announcing anything right now! We’re not, no. Practice makes perfect! We’re trying, trying, trying like rabbits!”
So how does Kelly Clarkson fare as a stepmother? Brandon seemed elated when he spoke about Clarkson’s skills to PEOPLE in October: “My kids love her. I couldn’t ask for a better stepmother for my children.”
Blackstock, whose stepmother is Reba McEntire, proposed to the singer in December 2012. Although Clarkson was originally planning for a big wedding, she was reportedly overwhelmed by the whole process. Instead the two decided to elope on October 20 in Blackberry farms in Tennessee.
Of her relationship with husband Brandon Blackstock, Clarkson said:
“Brandon is my manager’s son. I’ve known him for six years, but he was married. Then, suddenly, there he was at the Super Bowl and he was single.”
At the time she tweeted the surprise wedding to her followers:
