Remember the impossibly creepy doll named Annabelle from director James Wan’s hit horror flick The Conjuring ? The haunted toy is reportedly getting its very own spin-off movie.
The folks at Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema made a considerable amount of money from the acclaimed genre flick over the summer. Despite it’s R-rating , The Conjuring ended up generating $316 million around the world. Considering the movie only cost $20 million to make, that’s quite an incredible feat.
According to Coming Soon , James Wan’s hit isn’t just getting a sequel. The studio is apparently very interested in moving forward with a spin-off movie centered around the creepy doll named Annabelle. Word on the street is that the script, which received the real-life Lorraine Warren’s seal of approval, is currently undergoing rewrites.
Although part of the doll’s story was previously tackled in The Conjuring , the spin-off follows how the doll became possessed. John R. Leonetti, who served as director of photography on Wan’s horror flick, was recently tapped to helm the spin-off. It’s currently unknown when the movie will arrive in theaters.
The Annabelle doll definitely deserves its very own movie. The story behind the haunted toy is intriguing in its own right. However, the real doll looks a lot different from the one depicted in the movie. However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t any less terrifying.
John Zaffis, nephew to Ed and Lorraine Warren, is the host of SyFy’s Haunted Collector . Zaffis recently sat down with the folks at Paranormal Pop Culture to discuss his experiences with Annabelle. Needless to say the doll left an impression on him.
He told the website:
“As Ed had built up the museum and more items went into it, one time he was away and Lorraine had a case built to put the Annabelle doll in there. Years ago, when I used to work with my uncle, we used to have classes up there and do meetings in there. There was always activity and something crazy happening within that area around that crazy doll. Is there something negative attached to that doll? There’s no doubt in my mind.”
As for the direct sequel to The Conjuring , Ain’t it Cool News reports that the story will take the Lorraines across the pond to England.
Here’s what the follow-up is reportedly all about:
“The case file they’re looking at [occurs] in the late ’70s and centers on two sisters in Enfield, England, who were allegedly possessed. Warren said she personally saw them levitate and even saw one of the sister dematerialize in front of her only to be found 20 minutes later stuffed into an oversized fuse box, contorted in such an unnatural way that they couldn’t have replicated it if they tried. She also said that the demon spoke directly to her husband on many occasions. Warren cited this case as one of the most terrifying experiences of her career.”
What do you think about the Annabelle doll from The Conjuring getting its own movie?
