Ed Sheeran translates the emotional feel of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in his song “I See Fire” which he wrote exclusively for the action fantasy film.

Peter Jackson has a lengthy post on his Facebook page about choosing Ed Sheeran to pen the song for the film. He credits his daughter, Katie, for introducing him to his music and after finding out the ballad singer is a fan of his films, well, he decided to bring him on board.

While Sheeran was touring New Zealand, the director invited him to come and make a visit to the set, where they were producing the film.

Ed Sheeran and Peter Jackson exchanged email addresses and when he was finally searching for that perfect artist to record the song for the film, his daughter reminded him how much they had enjoyed Sheeran’s music.

But Jackson says he needed someone, fast. Ed came to Wellington within 48 hours after being asked if he was interested in doing the song for The Hobbit because the director wanted him to see the movie first.

Desolation of Smaug , the second installment in Jackson’s trilogy, is an adaptation of the classic J.R.R. Tolkien novel.

The story follows the company of dwarves who are searching for their long lost home, Erebor, which has been taken by the feared Smaug.

With the help of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), and Gandalf (Ian McKellen), Thorin (Richard Armitage) and the 12 dwarves arrive at Laketown, where they meet Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans), who joins them in the quest.

This is the backdrop that Ed Sheeran had to work with when he was writing “I See Fire” and from what we see in the video, he captured the emotional story to the T.

The song will play during the final credits for the movie, which is scheduled to premiere on December 13.

Ed Sheeran has been living a whirlwind since he began touring with Taylor Swift and playing to sold out locations such as Madison Square Garden in New York City.

This is his first single in two years and one of the thrills for the red-headed ballad singer is that he got to play almost all the instruments featured in “I See Fire”.

During the last few days, Ed Sheeran has been sharing the news about the upcoming song on Twitter:

Sheeran personally thanks Peter Jackson for the opportunity.

The new Ed Sheeran song “I See Fire” for Desolation Of Smaug is now available on iTunes .
