People’s Choice Awards 2014 Nominees Announced
The People’s Choice Awards 2014 nominees have been announced, and the fans have spoken.
The People’s Choice Awards, for those who don’t know, is entirely fan based, a reflection of what entertainment fans actually think. Not surprisingly, Miley Cyrus wasn’t even mentioned, meaning that shock value will only get you so far before you have to show people you still have talent.
The awards are chosen across 58 categories by fans online, and encompass most aspects of entertainment, such as TV, film, and music.
The cast of Glee and the show itself received eight nominations, including favorite network TV comedy. After the passing of Lea Michele’s main squeeze Cory Montieth, an award would be a great way to pay tribute to the fallen star.
Pop singer Demi Lovato landed four nominations by herself, including female pop artist. However, she barely trailed Justin Timberlake’s triumphant return and Katy Perry, both of whom received five nominations. Katy Perry’s “Roar” was nominated for best song and best music video.
Sandra Bullock received some nomination love in the People’s Choice Awards 2014 for her roles in Gravity and The Heat, for best duo and best buddy-cop comedy. She was also nominated for best comedic actress and best dramatic actress.
Selena Gomez and Bruno Mars were both nominated for their musical contributions, though Bruno Mars was given one more for his song “When I was Your Man.”
Fast and Furious 6 was nominated alongside Star Trek Into Darkness and Iron Man 3 for best action film, with animated sequels Despicable Me 2 and Monsters University being picked for favorite movie.
Oprah Winfrey was nominated in the People’s Choice Awards 2014 for her role in Lee Daniels’ The Butler, a role requiring extra effort due to her admitted nervous breakdown.
Robin Williams was nominated for the second time after 34 years in the same category for favorite actor in a new TV series. The first time was for Mork & Mindy, and this time he’s being nominated for The Crazy Ones.
Organizers have stated that over 160 million votes were taken into account for the show’s nominations, of which the winners will be selected January 8 in Los Angeles. The People’s Choice Awards kick off a series of award shows including the Oscars and the Academy Awards.
