‘COD: Ghosts’ Fails To Take Down ‘GTA 5’ In Initial Sales
COD: Ghosts failed to do what some may have expected this time around, but with the looming next gen consoles the fight may not be close to over. Some gamers may be holding out for the more technically advanced version on the Xbox One or PS4.
Call of Duty: Ghosts is the latest in Activision’s long line of bestselling shooters, launching to reviews which stated it was a recycled success, as previously reported by The Inquisitr. The inability of the latest title to take down the reigning champion Grand Theft Auto 5 shows that gamers are still siding with Rockstar’s latest epic.
Of course, the UK sales of Batman: Arkham Origins beat out GTA 5 at first, but that’s beside the point.
COD: Ghosts and GTA 5 were expected to be rivals from launch. With Grand Theft Auto 5 winning seven Guinness World Records right after its release, it would have taken an amazing game to beat it. Call of Duty: Ghosts didn’t fail because it wasn’t good enough. It was simply up against a much larger fan base right out of the gate.
With the Xbox One and PS4 just over the horizon, Call of Duty: Ghosts still has a chance on the next gen consoles. Unfortunately, most gamers aren’t planning to buy either one this holiday season, meaning that Call of Duty: Ghosts has simply been overwhelmed by the sales of Grand Theft Auto 5.
New post: Call Of Duty: Ghosts Sales Hit $1 Billion, But Did It Outsell GTA 5?

Technically, with Call of Duty: Ghosts working the way it should straight out of the box, Infinity Ward’s title should have had a serious advantage over the glitch-ridden launch of GTA 5.
Initial sales of GTA 5 exceeded $1 billion in its first three days on sale, while COD: Ghosts was simply ordered by retailers in that number, but not bought by consumers. Again, gamers may be waiting for the Xbox One and PS4 versions. In that regard, the war is far from won.
Compared with the sales of GTA 5, COD: Ghosts failed to sell as well as expected, and Rockstar’s sandbox title is still the retail champion of all time.
