Paul Simon And Sting Announce 2014 Tour
Paul Simon and Sting have announced a 2014 joint tour. The performances are scheduled to begin in February and will include both musical legends and their bands. The Paul Simon & Sting: On Stage Together tour will include 18 shows.
Although the two men have known each other for years, this is their first major collaboration. In May, the duo performed “The Boxer” and “Fields of Gold” during a Robin Hood Foundation benefit show. The acoustic performance was well received by fans, prompting the combined tour.
As reported by Consequence of Sound, Paul Simon and Sting both have a vision of “musical exploration.” Sting said he and Simon “don’t really have a clue how this is going to pan out,” but they “both have [an] abiding curiosity about music.”
The details of the tour are still being worked out. However, a March 4 performance at Madison Square Garden has been secured. Pre-sale tickets will be available beginning November 6.
Gordon Sumner got his start as a jazz musician. During one of his early performances, he was spotted wearing a black and yellow striped sweater. Jokes among his band mates eventually led to his iconic name.
The legendary musician joined drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Henri Padovani to form The Police. The newly formed band focused on punk rock, which was steadily gaining in popularity. Between 1978 and 1983 The Police recorded five chart-topping albums and were honored with six Grammy Awards.
As reported by Sting.com, the band never formally broke up, they simply agreed that they needed a break. During his solo career, Sting recorded 11 albums and won 11 Grammy Awards.
Paul Simon’s career began as a duo with Art Garfunkel. Although they took several breaks, the duo performed together from 1957 to 2010. Their last and most successful album, Bridge over Troubled Water, was reportedly written during a specifically difficult time in the duo’s career. Although the album was certified 8 times platinum, it was the last album the two men recorded together.
Simon’s solo career took off in 1972. As he explored different styles and genres, he became well-known as a versatile and talented performer. During his solo career, Simon has received 12 Grammy Awards.
As reported by Rolling Stone, the legendary performer is also known for his humanitarian efforts with the homeless, children in South Africa, and rainforest preservation.
Paul Simon and Sting have both proven to be talented and versatile performers. Their combined tour is sure to please fans of both musicians.
