Xbox One: Call Of Duty: Ghosts, BF4 Runs 720p, Not 900p Or 1080p 60 FPS Like PS4
Xbox One release date news claims Call of Duty: Ghosts runs at 720p while the PS4 1080 60 FPS performance has become the standard to beat.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr, we released a PS4 release date shopping guide for finding the best deals and bundles.
When you compare the PlayStation 4 GPU performance against the Xbox One GPU Microsoft’s latest console comes up lacking. In the months leading up to the Xbox One release date there were many rumors about whether the Xbox One 1080p 60 FPS performance levels could handle a game like Call Of Duty: Ghosts.
Crytek, which is known for its Far Cry and Crysis game series, said graphically intense titles like Ryse: Son of Rome would output at a max of 900p at 30 FPS on the Xbox One and then be upscaled to 1080p. But this shouldn’t be the case for all games. For example, NBA 2K14 should be capable of natively rendering at the high definition resolution of 1920 x 1080.
There was a Xbox One Call Of Duty: Ghosts rumor that claimed 900p would also be the resolution of choice. But that rumor turned out to be wishful thinking since the game developer Infinity Ward had executive producer Mark Rubin announce via Twitter what the actual Xbox One CoD: Ghosts resolution would be:
“Hey, been on the road last couple weeks so haven’t had a chance to update, but wanted to confirm that for Xbox One we’re 1080p upscaled from 720p. And, we’re native 1080p on PS4. We optimized each console to hit 60 FPS and the game looks great on both. Still on the road, but glad to see the great reception to Extinction. Can’t wait for next week’s launch.”
Interestingly enough, Thomas Morgan of Digital Foundry claims they’ve seen Call Of Duty: Ghosts running on both the PS4 and Xbox One and somehow the results are mixed:
“[T]he actual results on PS4 lack the corresponding level of crystal clarity we’d expect of such a significant resolution boost. This should surely be a home run for Sony’s console, but what is likely to be a software-based upscale to 1080p delivers less-than-stellar returns, and for better or worse leaves the Xbox One with an often crisper looking, albeit much more aliased image…. The Microsoft version is poised to give us the most aliasing of the two next-gen platforms by a noticeable degree, and is only a stone’s throw from the sub-720p resolutions of current-gen releases. On the other hand, the PS4 version delivers a whopping 1600×900 resolution in all modes, giving it a 50 per cent lead in output pixels overall. As well as cutting down on jagged edges, this reduces the amount of pixel shimmer we see in motion on complex shaders or thin geometry, with distant power lines, scaffolding and other elements with sub-pixel elements creating unwanted flickering on Xbox One.”
But even the mighty PS4’s 1080 60 FPS performance cannot handle Battlefield 4. The PlayStation 4 will run that game at 900p while the Xbox One will be 720p. The Xbox One was also missing ambient occlusion but the developers say that will be patched.
The Xbox One, Call Of Duty: Ghosts controversy is probably why Xbox One release date polls show that Xbox One preorder sales numbers are behind the PS4 preorder numbers. What do you think?
