Gary Kubiak Collapses On Field During Sunday Night Football, Rushed To Hospital
Gary Kubiak collapsed on the field during Sunday Night Football, and paramedics rushed the Houston Texans coach to the hospital.
The incident took place while Kubiak was leaving the field to go to the locker room at halftime. After falling to the turf, Kubiak laid still for several minutes before finally sitting up.
He spoke with medical staff, but was in obvious pain and had a grimace on his face.
As the medical crew brought a stretcher, Kubiak laid down again so he could be secured on the stretcher and taken to a local hospital.
Defensive coordinate Wade Phillips took over as head coach in Kubiak’s absence. Phillips has head coaching experience with the Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys.
The Houston Texans were winning 21-3 at halftime.
Kubiak is the second NFL coach to suffer a major medical setback this weekend. On Saturday Denver Broncos head coach Jon Fox became dizzy while playing golf near his offseason home and was taken to a hospital.
Though reports initially said Fox had a heart attack, he later clarified that it wasn’t the case.
Fox plans to spend time away from the team to have heart surgery. No interim has been named yet.
“I sincerely appreciate all of the support from friends, Denver Broncos fans and so many around the league today,” Fox said in a statement released by the team Saturday night. “Although I am disappointed I must take some time away from the team to attend to this pre-existing health condition, I understand that it’s the right thing to do. I have great confidence in our coaches and players, who are fully committed to our goals.
