Justin Bieber Releases New Song ‘Bad Day’ And It’s Seriously Good [Listen]

Here comes another new song from Justin Bieber. The aptly named “Bad Day,” given his eventful few days in Brazil on the South American leg of his Believe tour.

The 19-year-old has just dropped his latest and fifth single from his “Music Mondays” series, and it’s without doubt his catchiest yet.

After a false dawn when Bieber understandably got his timezones confused, prompting a pictorial tweet of himself looking suitably jubilant followed by an Instagram video to explain the mix-up, “Bad Day” was released to iTunes shortly before midnight.

“And now…it’s OUT!! #BadDay on ITUNES now! #MusicMondays click here,” the teen star tweeted on Sunday, Nov. 4, also sharing the link to the song.

#BadDayToNumberOneWorldwide trended on Twitter shortly after.

The single finds Bieber once more in R&B territory with a guitar-drenched mid-tempo that samples Ice Cube’s 1993 hit “It Was a Good Day, which in turn sampled The Isley Brothers’ “Footsteps In The Dark.”

Lyrics theme on a former lover departing, emotionally and physically. “No, I didn’t think you would let me down that easy oh no girl / And I didn’t think it was over until you walked away like it was nothing, baby / And that moment was so hard for me to breathe yeah,” he sings.

A gorgeous falsetto bridge opens into a singalong chorus atop layers of background vocals and a simple but effective reggae-inflected outro looping, “It was a bad day.””Cause you took away the biggest part of me yeah / Life is so unpredictable yeah, never thought a love like yours would leave me all alone oh no,” the verse continues.

As per routine, Justin accompanied his single release with a note on the song’s meaning.

“There are times in relationships where things aren’t going well, where you know something isn’t right. But when you’re in love you feel like no matter what, you’ll make it work… until the day comes when the other person doesn’t feel the same way and walks out,” he explains.

Adding, “That day — the day where everything you were willing to fight for is gone — is what Bad Day is all about. JB.”

Like previous “Music Mondays” songs — “Heartbreaker,” “All That Matters,” “Hold Tight” and “Recovery” — speculation will continue that the lovelorn lyrics of this latest single are an ode to the singer’s ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez.

A few days ago we mused the fifth single title hinted the pop prince might explore something other than his love life and talk about the dramas that trailed his Believe tour. But if Bieber’s going to put out a song as good as “Bad Day,” we don’t mind dallying in the lovesick lane a while longer.
