Denver Broncos Coach John Fox Having Heart Surgery, Out For A Few Weeks
Denver Broncos coach John Fox will miss several weeks after undergoing heart sugery. The 58-year-old Fox is undergoing aortic valve replacement surgery early this week at a hospital in Charlotte, N.C.
The Broncos front office has not yet named an interim coach, although offensive coordinator Adam Gase and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio are expected to head up the team.
John Fox admits that he was told about his heart condition ahead of time but was hoping to put off the surgery until the end of the current season. During his team trip to North Carolina Fox met with his cardiologist and was told to seek medical attention immediately if any discomfort was felt.
Fox was admitted to a local hospital after he began to feel dizzy while playing golf on Saturday. Several new tests revealed that his aortic valve replacement surgery was needed as soon as possible.
On Saturday Night John Fox released the following statement:
“I sincerely appreciate all of the support from friends, Denver Broncos fans and so many around the league today. Although I am disappointed I must take some time away from the team to attend to this pre-existing health condition, I understand that it’s the right thing to do. I have great confidence in our coaches and players, who are fully committed to our goals. I look forward to returning to coaching as soon as possible.”
The heart surgery comes at a time when the Denver Broncos (7-1) continue to trail the Kansas City Chiefs (8-0). The Broncos none-the-less are still considered AFC Super Bowl favorites.
The Denver Broncos will take on the San Diego Chargers on November 10.
Fox, in his third season with the Denver Broncos, has racked up a 28-12 record.
With a capable staff, a quarterback on a hot streak, and the support of fans, I have a feeling the Denver Broncos will be just fine while John Fox recovers.
Our thoughts go out to Fox as he undergoes heart surgery.
