Hockey Team Holds ‘Star Wars Night’ With X-Wing And Vader Jerseys

When it comes to minor and major league sports teams, “Star Wars Night” has become a pretty familiar way to draw in fans and have a geeked out fun time. One minor league team recently cranked their Star Wars nights to 11.

On Saturday night, minor league hockey team the Toledo Walleye will host the Kalamazoo Wings and they have asked their opponents to wear Darth Vader-themed jerseys. The Walleye will sport X-Wing pilot shirts, fighting on the side of good with the Jedi.

The team has also asked fans to dress up as their favorite Star Wars characters with the promise of some possible giveaways and Star Wars-theme contests. We know at least one prize will be given out for best costume, that prize is pretty standard for just about every Star Wars dress-up event on the planet.

The Toledo Walleye’s are not just having some fun and living out some type of jock-based nerdy fantasy. Following the game, the unique Star Wars hockey jerseys will be auctioned, and proceeds from the auction sales of X-Wing gear will go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, while Vader-themed gear will pull in cash for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Oh, we should also mention that the famed Stanley Cup will also be on hand. We hear that the Jedi will be protecting the prized possession from Darth Vader and his minions.

When we think of Star Wars themed nights, we typically picture a bunch of kids running around in Stormtrooper and Chewbacca outfits, while their parents scream “don’t hit that stranger with your lightsaber.” Seeing actual grown hockey players dressed in Star Wars gear should make for a unique and worthwhile experience.

What do you think about the Star Wars themed hockey night? Would you attend a similar event in your area?
