Michael Douglas And Catherine Zeta Jones Quietly Reconcile [Report]
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones appear to have reconciled after they announced in August that they were splitting up. Seems like when they said “we just need a break for a bit” they meant it.
At the premiere of his new movie Last Vegas, Douglas was spotted wearing his wedding ring despite being on his own as he arrived at the Ziegfeld Theatre. He granted interviews with reporters on the red carpet, but broke with them briefly to answer what he called a “very important call” from his estranged wife.
“She called to wish him good luck and he said, ‘Thanks honey,’ ” a source told Confidenti@l. “The only reason she wasn’t by his side is because she didn’t want to take attention away from the film. It was Michael’s night. She wanted to say hello and didn’t realize he was on the carpet already.”
Reporters noted that Douglas was in good spirits, and sources say that they overheard him telling friends that he and Zeta Jones had reconciled.
After the premiere, Douglas attended a VIP after-party at ’21’ and reportedly talked about Zeta Jones for most of the night.
“He was sitting in the corner with friends and people kept asking what’s going on with Catherine,” said a source. “Michael said, ‘We are doing great, she’s better than ever,’ and said their kids are doing great.”
Another source said that Zeta Jones has moved back into the Central Park West apartment that the couple once shared, and that the two are working on their marriage. In a complete 180 from earlier, panicked gossip, sources now chalk the problems in the couple’s marriage up to the normal grind of sharing your life with someone.
“They know they have some problems, but are speaking every day and are scheduling future projects with each other in mind,” said a source. “Both of them are wearing their rings; what more is there to say?”
In August, the couple of 13 years released a joint statement, which said that they had decided to take some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage. Splitting up for a time might have done the trick.
“Time apart has been positive,” said a source. “They don’t want to throw away all those years and a family so easily.”
Indeed, at least according to Douglas, reconciliation was always in the cards. In September, when pressed about his “crisis at home,” he replied, “I have a crisis at home? No, I think the press has a crisis. We are fine. My wife and I are fine.”
