Simon Cowell In Trouble For Smoking In Car With His Pregnant Baby Mama

Celebrity curmudgeon Simon Cowell is getting all sorts of backlash after he was photographed smoking next to his pregnant girlfriend in the back of a car.

The 54-year-old TV mogul was spotted smoking in close quarters of Lauren Silverman over the past several weeks. In one instance, he was caught lighting up mere inches from her in the back of an enclosed car, reports the Daily Mail.

We’re not really in the business of telling people how to live their lives, but smoking near pregnant women is pretty unanimously regarded as a bad thing.

The health charity Action on Smoking and Health was so incensed by the photos that they sent a warning out to all pregnant women to avoid secondhand smoke at all costs due to the link between passive smoke and congenital abnormalities.

“Tobacco smoke is toxic and can harm the unborn child so it’s really important that pregnant women avoid breathing in tobacco smoke, whether through active or passive smoking,” said the charity’s research manager Amanda Sandford.

“Studies show that babies born to women who were exposed to secondhand smoke during pregnancy are at greater risk of having a low birth weight, congenital abnormalities and are also at increased risk of dying shortly after birth.”

Cowell has made little to-do about his bad habit, and once confessed that he began smoking at the age of eight. He did try to quite earlier this year by switching to smokeless electric cigarettes, but it didn’t seem to stick. He’s back to a reported two packs a day of menthol cigarettes.

“I equate smoking with having a good time. I shouldn’t be saying this but, well, they’re not illegal, are they? After sex – amazing,” he said recently.

Despite his poor habit, Cowell thinks he’ll do okay as a father.

“I’m not brilliant with babies. I never know what to do. But [once it’s older] I think I’ll be a good dad in terms of advice. And then I’ll get to do all the things I want to do, like go to Disneyland or Universal Studios, teach him how to drive – I love all that,” he said, adding that the only thing he won’t do is change diapers.
