Hyperloop May Be Possible, Not Really, But Sort Of
Elon Musk, Tesla’s very ambitious founder, came up with the idea for a Hyperloop transportation system that would transport people faster than any plane or train can. The plans were real and Musk put them out for everyone to see. However, he pulled himself away from the project, stating that it was not the right time to work on it.
As expected, this upset a lot of people, but at the same time, sparked an interest in hundreds of other ambitious people who are trying to make the Hyperloop a reality and are basing it off of Musk’s plans. A firm is currently in being put together and is trying to gather members who will work to build the Hyperloop.
Following a vote on JumpStartFund, the group was named Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT), which is the most obvious name for a company that is being built solely to create a Hyperloop.
Not only have the fine people of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies decided on a name for themselves, but they have already taken the next step, talking with potential manufacturers who will help make the components necessary for the Hyperloop.
One of these companies, ANSYS, says that it has created a working simulation of the Hyperloop, verifying that Elon Musk’s plans for the system may actually work in real life.
There are four steps in Hyperloop Transportation Technologies’ plan. First of all, an environmental analysis must be done before any work on the Hyperloop begins. Once the analysis is complete, work on the system commences and the project ends once the Hyperloop is built and functional.
Just as Musk has stated that it would be years before he would take on the project, it will definitely take many years for Hyperloop Transportation Technologies to get together the funding for a multi-billion dollar, revolutionary project.
The group is now asking for a first round of funding, which will amount to $1 million, and with that, it will be able to produce a model of the Hyperloop by 2015. Already, the smallest of its milestones is more than a year away, meaning that a real Hyperloop is still a distant dream.
Since Hyperloop Transportation Technologies is a new organization that lacks any sort of monetary base, it remains to be seen if they can actually get anywhere with the project. Perhaps Elton Musk will resume work on his revolutionary transportation system and finish it himself.
