Giraffe Riddle Sweeps Facebook: Is The Answer Eyes Or Door?

The new ‘giraffe riddle’ which is sweeping Facebook of late is the latest online challenge to go viral, attracting a whole lot of interest and followers.

Here’s the way it works. The deal is that you have to answer a seemingly easy riddle, if you get it correct, all good, if not then you have to replace your Facebook profile picture with one of a giraffe type meme.

The rules of the game state that once you have thought carefully about your answer to the riddle and are ready to post your response, you do so to the one who posted it and not in the comments (for obvious reasons as otherwise you’d give the answer away.)

If you get the answer wrong you have to re-post the riddle which stumped you, once you have changed your profile pic to one of a giraffe.

Here’s a riddle for you:

It’s 3 a.m., the doorbell rings and you wake up. Unexpected visitors! It’s your parents and they are here for breakfast. You have strawberry jam, honey, wine, bread and cheese. What is the first thing you open?

Um, isn’t the answer to that one blatantly obvious? Apparently not, judging by all the giraffe profile pics popping up at an alarming rate on Facebook. On the other hand the ‘giraffe riddle’ challenge is pretty wholesome and harmless fun.

This is, of course, only if you don’t have anything against giraffes and don’t mind having all your Facebook friends seeing that as your profile picture. Fortunately the rules don’t stipulate how long you need to keep the giraffe image in your profile but some reports suggest up to three days.

The answer to the ‘giraffe riddle’ above might not be as easy as you might think. Especially if you take a look at all the comments from people arguing as to what the correct answer is. There is the “eyes” camp and the “door” camp.

What do you think? Do you have to open your eyes or the door first? The riddle seems to be phrased in such a way that it suggests you woke up after the doorbell rang therefore making the correct answer the door.

Truth be told though, if you were smart and looked to see who it was first, upon realizing it was your parents you’d probably open the wine first, then door.
