Sam Raimi Confirmed As ‘Army Of Darkness 2’ Director
Sam Raimi will return to the world of the Deadites one more time. The acclaimed filmmaker is reportedly on-board for the upcoming sequel Army of Darkness 2.
Shortly after Bruce Campbell said he would reprise his role as the heroic Ash in the next installment of the Evil Dead series, filmmaker Fede Alvarez confirmed Sam Raimi’s involvement with the follow-up. The news arrived courtesy of a recent post on Twitter.
Since everyone wants to know who’s involved with Army of Darkness 2, one fan asked the Evil Dead remake director who would step behind the camera for the sequel. That’s when Alvarez spilled the beans.
“Sam Raimi will!” he enthusiastically tweeted.
This news is certainly music to this fan’s ears. It’s hard to imagine a proper Evil Dead movie without Sam Raimi in the director’s chair. Although Fede Alvarez put his skills to the test with this year’s remake, he didn’t capture that madcap sense of adventure that Raimi brings to the series.
The Inquisitr previously reported that Bruce Campbell is also returning for the Army of Darkness sequel. The Burn Notice star revealed his involvement with the follow-up during the Wizard World Comic-Con in Nashville earlier this month.
The actor explained:
“The last one was twenty-two years ago. Ash would have to stop occasionally from chasing some Deadite to catch his breath. That would be exciting. Fight in a walker. Hit them with my cane. Fake them out, have a fake heart attack, distract a zombie. I like it. Alright, sir. The answer is yes.”
This isn’t the first time Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell were asked about the status of the next Evil Dead flick. Campbell addressed rumors about the sequel at this year’s SXSW. According to the actor, he would never say no to Sam Raimi regarding the next film.
He told Screen Rant:
“Sam threatens this every six months. I’ve heard this a thousand times, because in the back of his mind, he never wants to let go, because he loved making these movies. We all loved making them together. They were a nightmare to make, very difficult, but they lasted the test of time, so he’s not going to let that go, and I’m never going to say ‘no.’ It’ll be me and a walker fighting some other old guy. But that’s what he does and who knows? It may happen.”
Are you happy that Sam Raimi will return to direct Army of Darkness 2?
