Justin Bieber Springs Surprise ‘Recovery’ Single Preview [Listen]

Justin Bieber has dropped a preview of his new single “Recovery” ahead of its scheduled midnight premiere.

After understandably getting his days mixed up while hyping up his fourth “Music Mondays” single, the 19-year-old posted an Instagram video on Twitter earlier today (Oct. 27).

From the brief tease, “Recovery” continues Bieber’s unflinching, emotional trek through his personal life with a mid-tempo R&B song that moves the story on from his previous singles “Heartbreaker,” “All That Matters,” and “Hold Tight.”

Where “Heartbreaker” seemed to trace the first relationship break leaving the singer declaring “I still believe in us”, “All That Matters” asked “What’s a king bed without a queen?,” while “Hold Tight” got downright erotic with lyrics such as, “That thing is swollen, you got me oh so in a trance.”

In contrast, “Recovery” finds Bieber in apologetic, almost spiritual mood.

Produced by The Audibles delivering a sub-beat with shades of Jay Z’s “Tom Ford,” finger clicks, and either acoustic guitar or synth replica, the Canadian admits,

“First I’ll acknowledge our trust has been broken / a successful recovery I prayed for us at night.”

He adds, “Bless me with a second chance / Never thought I’d see your face again.”

So far, Justin’s Music Mondays singles have been interpreted through a Selena Gomez lens, after his admission that “Heartbreaker” is, as he put it,

“A song for people going through a heartbreak—like I was when I wrote it. It means so much to me to be able to share what I was, and still am going through, with my fans. I’m very proud of this song and I hope it gives my fans some insight into my heart.”

In total, Bieber will be releasing 10 singles from his Journals collection over 10 weeks in his Music Mondays series in the lead-up to the Christmas Day debut of his movie-documentary Believe .

The singer has said the singles are a way of bringing fans into his “most intimate moments,” while manager Scooter Braun told Billboard the series is separate to Bieber’s typical radio-geared fare and should be viewed as the teen’s cathartic expression of the “tough times” of recent months.

“Recovery” will be released on iTunes at midnight Sunday, Oct. 27.

What do you think of the teaser? Does it whet your appetite for the premiere?
