Danica Patrick Crashes During Practice, Goes To Backup Car [Video]
Danica Patrick had a rough practice session today at the Martinsville Speedway.
Patrick crashed her car on the outside wall during the opening session on Friday. The car suffered a little too much damage and Danica had to finish the day in her backup car.
According to NACAR.com, Patrick had completed about 35 laps before she crashed into the wall between turn 1 and 2.
Patrick said: “I wheel-hopped it into (Turn) 1 and it just came around. When it wheel hops, it doesn’t slow down very well… Caved the whole bumper in. Backed in and then went to the side. If I would have just pancaked it on the side, they probably would have just tried to bang out the wheel wells and fix it. But it crushed the bumper in.”
Fox Sports reports that Danica, who finished 12th at Martinsville back in April, was 36th on the speed chart with a 95.540 mph lap at the time of her crash. Danica Patrick is currently 28th in the point standings.
Danica wasn’t the only driver to crash today. Patrick’s boyfriend, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. also wrecked his primary car at Martinsville. Stenhouse Jr. was second-fastest during the practice session (98.241 mph lap) when he crashed.
