Juicy J Opens Up About Katy Perry’s ‘Dark Horse’
Rapper Juicy J recently opened up about his collaboration with Katy Perry on the track “Dark Horse.” The song appears on the singer’s recently-released album Prism.
The tune, which was reportedly inspired by the 90s witchcraft flick The Craft, found the singer and the rapper working together for the first time. During his recent chat with MTV News, Juicy J said he was nothing short of thrilled to work with someone of Perry’s stature.
The rapper explained that he hooked up with the “Roar” singer after Dr. Luke contacted him about the collaboration. Juicy J said he “couldn’t believe” Katy Perry wanted to work with him on a song.
“He sent me the track over, I did the verse and like a week later he called me again and he was like, ‘She wants to meet you she wants you to come to the studio,'” the rapper recalled.
Juicy J admitted that working with Katy Perry was a little different than he’d expected. Although the singer was very “professional” during the recording session, he said working with Perry was a unique experience. He recorded three different verses to make sure she was happy with his contribution to “Dark Horse.”
“When we finished the whole song we kept listening to it listening to it over and over again. And she was singing all the lyrics to my flow to my verse on the song and I was like, ‘Wow.’ Just to be there with Katy Perry a huge artist like that it’s great,” Juicy J explained.
Getting a verse for her tune wasn’t the only thing Perry wanted during their session. According to the rapper, the singer was also interested in acquiring some grillz.
“She liked my chain and I hooked her up with my jeweler. She wanted to get some grillz, so I gave her the contact to my jeweler,” Juicy J explained.
The Inquisitr previously reported that the 38-year-old musician thinks Katy Perry is an incredible musician. Judging from his comments, he was extremely honored and a little humbled to work with the singer.
“She’s very professional, everything went smooth and she’s a great person. My verse I did on that song, she was singing it. She’s really a genius, she was by the mixing board and telling the guy what to take in and take out. She’s really hands-on with her music, she knows music,” the rapper said during his recent chat.
