Amid reports that she is still “wrapped up in Justin Bieber,” Selena Gomez opened up in a big way this week about dating, or rather not, and her take on all things sexy and cool.
Currently moving through North American dates on her Stars Dance tour, the 21-year-old seems to be in a up and down emotional state right now.
Following her fall offstage at a show last week, and initial confusion as to why she teared up during the Biebs-inspired “Love Will Remember” at her Brooklyn gig (the official story was an Instagram ban ) — not to mention three weeks of her ex-boyfriend’s increasingly explicit, seemingly Gomez-fixated odes — it’s probably not surprising the starlet needed to get a few things off her chest.
Reaching out to fans at her Saturday concert in Philadelphia, Selena told them to be exactly who they are and ignore pressures to be anything else.
“The kids trust me, the parents trust me, and I just have to say thank you! thank you!,” she began.
Gomez went on to say , “I get it all day every day that I’m not sexy enough or I’m not cool enough, or if I did this I would be accepted.”
To the sound of cheers in the audience, the Spring Breakers star continued, “Let me tell you one thing: the sexiest thing I think, actually I know is class and that’s it,” She added , “I promise you that each and every one of you are made to be who you are, and that is what’s so attractive and beautiful. Please don’t forget that, even when it gets hard.”
It was a strong speech, possibly an important one to impressionable minds who idolize the Disney alum, and identify with her just over two-years, stormy, romantic, and now ended relationship with Bieber. Such youngsters are bamboozled daily by the porn-lite sexuality of current pop females — Miley Cyrus , Britney, Rihanna — and the rest. If it’s overpowering for adults, what’s it like for kids?
In other Selena news, during a recent tour stop interview with entertainment reporter Zach Sang, the actress-singer revealed her date card had yet to be marked.
“I’ve been asked out on one date [since my last relationship]. That’s it,” Gomez admitted.
When Sang offering his services, she replied , “I’ll say what I said to that boy. I said, ‘Thank you very much but I’m not in a place where I want to date right now.’”
But it seems there’s no need to feel too sorry for Selena. Opening up on her life as a single lady, she remarked, “I’ve been very content with how I’m living my life and if that comes, that comes, but I don’t know. I’m enjoying being single.”
Wetpaint noted the probable “intimidation” factor for potential Gomez suitors. With an ex-boyfriend with millions at his disposal, a legion of adoring fans, and a public platform to woo his former beau, it’s a scenario that would scare the bejesus out of most young men.
The saga of Justin and Selena may just run and run.
