Marina Oswald Porter Believes Lee Harvey Oswald Worked For The Government
Marina Oswald, the widow of President John F. Kennedy’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, is in the news as she is auctioning off her husband’s wedding ring. We revisit the story of the woman who unwillingly became a central figure of the tragic day in Dallas and who now believes her husband worked for the government.
Marina Prusakova met Lee Harvey Oswald at a dance in Minsk, Russia (USSR) on March 17, 1961, they married a little over a month later on April 30, 1961 and had a daughter the following February.
In June of 1962 a disillusioned Oswald received permission to take the family to the United States and they settled in Fort Worth, Texas.
After JFK’s assassination Marina Oswald was taken by the FBI to the Inn of the Six Flags Hotel and when threatened with deposition, she agreed to give authorities all the information she had on her husband, which later was used by the Warren Commission to determine that Lee Harvey Oswald was guilty of killing the President.
During her testimony for the Warren Commission, Marina Oswald said she believed her husband was responsible for the murder, a belief she stood by through the years, however, she later began questioning the role of Oswald in the assassination.
In 1965 she married Dallas carpenter Kenneth Porter with which he had two sons, she is now known as Marina Oswald Porter.
Oswald Porter gave an interview to Ladies Home Journal in September of 1988.
“I’m not saying that Lee is innocent, that he didn’t know about the conspiracy or was not a part of it, but I am saying he’s not necessarily guilty of murder. At first, I thought that Jack Ruby (who killed Oswald two days after the assassination) was swayed by passion; all of America was grieving. But later, we found that he had connections with the underworld. Now, I think Lee was killed to keep his mouth shut.”
Marina Oswald Porter adds:
I believe he worked for the American government… He was taught the Russian language when he was in the military. Do you think that is usual, that an ordinary soldier is taught Russian? Also, he got in and out of Russia quite easily, and he got me out quite easily.
In 1990 Marina Oswald Porter started a campaign to clear her former husband’s name and in 1996 she stated she was “misled” by the authorities at the time of JFK’s assassination.
At the time of the assassination of this great president whom I loved, I was misled by the “evidence” presented to me by government authorities and I assisted in the conviction of Lee Harvey Oswald as the assassin. From the new information now available, I am now convinced that he was an FBI informant and believe that he did not kill President Kennedy.
Marina Oswald Porter decided to auction Lee Harvey Oswald’s wedding band, which had been missing for decades and recently recovered, to distance himself from what she refers to as “the worst day of my life.” The auction takes place Thursday and it’s estimated to yield $50,000.
