Wes Welker Kept Out Of Broncos’ Wednesday Practice With Ankle Injury
Wide receiver Wes Welker was one of eight Denver Broncos kept out of practice Wednesday. Welker was joined by the offense’s QB Peyton Manning, TE Joel Dreessen, G Chris Kuper, WR Eric Decker and OT Orlando Franklin; defensively, CB Champ Bailey and DE Shaun Phillips also sat.
While Manning’s ankle injury came out of Sunday’s loss to Indianapolis, no cause was listed for Wes Welker’s injury.
“Just some of it is wear and tear of being almost halfway through an NFL season,” Broncos coach John Fox said.
Wes Welker has paid off well for fantasy footballers this year; Welker averages 6 catches per game, with 10.8 yards and has scored 8 TDs. KFFL.com advises to keep Welker in your lineup this week.
The two TD catches Wes Welker pulled in against Baltimore in week one were among seven scores Manning threw for in the rout, becoming only the sixth QB in history to do so. Welker’s 8 TDs lead the league among wide receivers, but Yahoo Sports insists the idea that New England misses the crafty veteran is a myth.
Receiver Julian Edelman has stepped in and been more than an acceptable replacement for [Welker]… He has made 41 catches for 411 yards and two scores. This puts him on pace to finish the season with 109 receptions for 1,096 yards and five touchdowns, which is very similar to Welker’s line of 118/1,354/6 from last year.
It’s safe to say any team that has experienced Welker’s production and has had as many problems at wide receiver this season as the Patriots would miss him. Welker seems to have adjusted well from Tom Brady to Peyton Manning, something Denver fans have to be excited about.
“Well, he’s extremely difficult to cover,” Manning said. “… We get the screens to him, we’ve got the quick stuff to him. We put him in the backfield. That was something we haven’t shown before. It’s a credit to him that he has that type of versatility. You can do different things with him.”
