‘Sherlock’ Gets A Premiere Date For Season 3
Fans of Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, and the show Sherlock, it’s time to get out your calendars. The US premiere date for season 3 has just been announced.
According to E! Online, new episodes of Sherlock will hit PBS Masterpiece on January 19 at 10 pm. The UK premiere date hasn’t been announced yet but the Sherlock Holmes show will probably hit the UK before it hits the US.
Sherlock executive producer Sue Vertue said in a statement: “We are hugely excited about this next series ofSherlock, and have worked closely with our partners, Masterpiece and PBS, to bring these episodes to U.S. audiences in January. We promise our fans that Season 3 is worth waiting for.”
Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton said that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are truly in the Sherlock groove during season 3.
Eaton said: “They’re fantastic… They are jaw-dropping. They are like small movies. Benedict and Martin are so in their Sherlock-Watson groove. They are so comfortable with that relationship it’s like being in the room with them.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, the third season of Sherlock was postponed primarily due to the skyrocketing success of Freeman and Cumberbatch. Freeman has been filming Hobbit movies and Cumberbatch has been working on the new Star Trek movies.
Eaton added: “The first holdup was the boys, of course, and getting all of them together — not just Benedict and Martin but also [creators] Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss… They had to break up the production to accommodate all the movies they wanted to make.”
Freeman and Cumberbatch may be experiencing a good deal of success at the moment but the two actors aren’t planning on walking away from Sherlock just yet. Nothing is planned yet but Cumberbatch said that he may stick around for a few more series of the hit detective show.
The actor said: “We’ve agreed to two more series but I could get into trouble for saying that… All I know at the moment is I’m doing [season three] and another three.”
